THE REV. JOSEPH DIRBAS, Rector

 

We are pleased to welcome Reverend Joseph Dirbas as the new Rector at the Church of the Holy Trinity as of June 2022.

 

The Reverend Joseph Dirbas was ordained to the priesthood in December 2010. Fr. Dirbas received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from California State University, Fullerton, CA. Fr. Dirbas worked as an engineer and business unit manager for a small defense contractor in San Diego for nearly 20 years before his seminary education at the General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church in New York. Upon completion of his MDiv, Fr. Dirbas served as the associate rector at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Del Mar, CA. In February 2014, Fr. Dirbas was called to serve as rector of All Souls’ Episcopal Church in Point Loma. Fr. Dirbas resigned his position as rector in preparation for his family’s move to Vancouver as his wife, the Rev. Terry Shields Dirbas, had been called and appointed as the rector of St. John’s, Shaughnessy. Fr. Dirbas and his family immigrated to Canada in December 2021. Fr. Dirbas and Mother Terry Dirbas have five children: George and Jeannie, age 12, Chatham, age 7, and James and Mary, age 4.

THE REV. PAUL RICHARDS,

Assistant to the Rector

 

The Rev. Deacon Paul Richards was ordained to the deaconate in 2015 and to the priesthood in June of 2023. Fr. Richards carried out his diaconal ministry at the Church of the Holy Trinity and is currently assigned as assistant to the rector. Growing up in Vancouver, he has had an extensive career in law enforcement and public safety for over 30 years across Canada and abroad.

In addition to his participation in the liturgy, his varied ministries include pastoral care for the sick and palliative care in many of the regional assisted care facilities and hospitals, assisting with settlement of sponsored refugee families and street outreach ministry in Surrey.

​

He is involved with the Order of St. Lazarus Canada at the rank of Chaplain, as well as having carried out Chaplain duties for St. John Ambulance BC/Yukon. He lives in Surrey with his wife Lenore and their family dogs.

MARIA GOLAS, Music Director

​

Originally from Manitoba, Maria Golas is now active as a performer, teacher, and conductor in Vancouver’s vibrant music community. She has worked with choirs of all ages, and  has appeared in a variety of productions from oratorio to theatre. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of British Columbia and currently sings with the Vancouver Chamber Choir. Maria's hobbies include reading, fibre arts, and bicycling.

Ms. Bonnie Gosselin

MR. ULO VALDMA, Organist

 

Mr. Valdma was born in Sweden, grew up in Toronto, studied at the Conservatory, and University of Toronto, resulting in an A.R.C.T., B.Ed., M.Mus., MA (University of Toronto) and M.L.S. (Kent State). He has taught at Douglas College ,  Jean Lyons School of Music in Vancouver  and at the Langley Community Music School.

In addition to music, Mr. Valdma’s interests include various sports, collecting minerals and photography.
